History
Brief History

  - May 2003: VNUHCM sent cadets to the Conference of Micro-Nano Science and Technology hold by the Ministry of Science & Technology and the Board of Natural Science at Ha Noi. This can be considered as the first profound approach of scientists in Southern Vietnam toward the benefits of Nanotechnology.

  - July 2003: VNUHCM sent 4 cadets to the International Conference of Training Personnel for Nanotechnology at Thailand. This can be considered as the milestone igniting the Program Nanotechnology at VNUHCM. After this Conference, the Chairman Board of Program Nanotechnology was formed and assigned to set up the strategy of Building and Developing Nanotechnology at VNUHCM.

  - April 2004: VNUHCM signed the Agreement of Cooperation with CEA-LETI, France, in Micro-Nanotechnology.

  - June 2004: the Agreement of World Bank’s Sponsoring Project was officially signed between the Project Coordinating Board and VNUHCM.

  - 21st September 2004: The Laboratory of Nanotechnology (LNT), directly under VNU-HCM, was officially established. Dr Dang Mau Chien was appointed as the first director of the organization.

  - November 2004: LNT organized the first School of Micro-nanotechnology (MINATEC), which would later become an annual academic activity.

  - October 2005: Together with the Postgraduate Department of VNU-HCM, INT cooperated with the Technology University-VNUHN in training Masters specializing in "Nano materials and devices” at VNUHCM.

 - December 2006: Totally finished installing equipment and the clean room, officially open the Nanotechnology.

 - 2006: To train the human resource for Micro-Nano Technology, LNT has set up many relationships with many partners from foreign Univesities, Institutes; has chosen research theses, mentors and labs; sent cadets to attend PhD courses or short-term apprentice (3-4 months). These partners granted total scholarships or collect no fees of training and apprentice.

 - 18th December 2006: LNT held the inauguration ceremony of the Institute.

- 25th November 2016: LNT was upgraded to Institute for Nanotechnology (INT)

- June 2020: Dr. Doan Duc Chanh Tin was appointed as Director of INT after Prof. Dang Mau Chien was appointed as Council President of INT
